Light Houses

On a school field trip visited one in Southern California.  Learning the responsibilities the care keeper had.  I like the details that was in the house and the tower.

Being near the ocean watching for ships.  Boat still rely on them even though we have sonar and radar

I like how they are so solitude sitting alone on a cliff.
which they had to so no other lights would interfere with their main purpose.

I bet they have seen many of Great Sunsets.

I wonder if the light keeper was scared of being so alone out their, of course a family would be nice.  I guess they always had tha outdoor lighting.

I wonder if they where scared when bad storms came in? and how the sound of the wave pounding against the walls.

No way, see that little figure standing their? well that's NOT ME
I watch a documentary of a powerful storm and wave knocked a light house down completely.  I bet it can be scary when water reaches your home.

Lighthouses are unique and also a mystery, I'm sure some are even haunted. I don't want to find out on that issue.  I hope you like the photos I thought where favorites.

I wouldn't mind living here.

Ocean mist

Sea and shore art looks exactly like it sounds and goes well with cottage decor or beach themes.

Choose from sea and shore art featuring sun sets and rolling beaches, ocean views with onset evenings.

Beaches of the world are always beautiful and peaceful.

A star is born

Living in Utah, I don't have those old stomping grounds while growing up. At my work Overstock.com they are having Customer Service week and their theme is Hollywood.  Lots of fun attractions and games they are giving away, a free trip to Hollywood.  I remember those olden days being down at the premier opening of the 1st Star Wars movie down at the Grauman's Chinnesse theater, yeah that long ago.

When I was young I remember a dollar would get us in to the movies with enough for popcorn and a soda back in the late 70's.  This was at the Fox theater down by the pier In Redondo Beach, Calif.  I seen a lot of movies in this old theater.  Amazing what a 10 yr old thought. Growing up in Southern California you tend to meet and become even old pal friends from school days.

My mother use to work at an old cafe along the board walk off of the pier before she met our father and had children, she told me how Elizabeth Taylor came in alone and had a cup of coffee, Mom said she was nice and very polite voice. Mom said she looked as if she was glad to be away from the lime light she sat their for awhile.

I went to school with a boy who later became a really good tom boy friend we use to hang out at the beach or go bike riding along the stands of the coast.  While watching an old movie, cant recall what it was but when the designer of clothing  name appeared as Edith Head, he told me that his great aunt.  I didn't think anything of it then, but her name really stuck to me all through the years when ever the costumes where by: and her name would appear.

The clothing back in those days where mostly hand made and very beautiful, seamstress are popular with great fashion,  I recently found a site that helps custom make some of the costumes Sew On Set she has done great work and among film as well for Broadway stage.    You know I never had the desire to be a star or famous, but some pals from school did I remember Demi Moore wanting to model, while we attended Hillcrest Jr High, she was pretty, and of course popular.  When she became an actress I often wondered if that was her and old friends confirmed it was.
Our 30 year HS reunion is this year, wow that's along time ago.
See the red dot in center of picture my childhood house.

Old Home

Thinking back when my mothers side all use to get together in California and how we all would dance and listen to them all playing their musical instruments, Grandpa Harris and Uncle Bill banjo, Uncle Ed guitar, Aunt Ruth accordion, I am sure there were more people playing but I didn't pay attention I just loved dancing with all our cousins.
I have old photos of many family members taking pictures was a nice thing to have.  I need to get some shared on this page.

My mothers side was from Soway Tenn. just near Oakridge Tenn. she was born in 1941 with 2 brothers and 2 sisters.  The photos of them all kids looks as if they where poor, but you wouldn't think so when you hear of all the travels and the things they spoke of.

I recall driving and mom telling us where she grew up at and how they went to school with no shoes. Which again didn't mind any.

How they ate biscuits and jelly for lunch.

I also recall when visiting with the kin folk back in her home town how sweet and kind they all where to us and how they would give you their shirt off their back if you needed it.

I love thinking back to the dear and sweet kin folks I met once and maybe twice when having to travel back for funnels.  Last time Ive been in Tenn was when my grandmother Irene past away.  I still miss her so till this day.
As you see these photos their not the homes they grew up in least I don't believe so? I pulled them from photos from Tenn photo album on line.

But you can feel the warmth and the  pride in any home which was built by sweat and honor.

I wish I could find a photo of my mothers home while growing up as a child.

And the many homes I visited when I was a child in Tenn. and Alabama.

Southern Style

Have you ever drove down country road and were amazed to see people still living in those old homes, and they will wave hello while you drive by,

They have a lot sometime more then us they have a dear loving heart that I remember well.

I dedicate this to My mother, my grandmother and the whole family Tree.

NE Bar Ranch

I created a new blog, wanting it to be more then what I enjoy the most history and good old down to earth things.

This Ranch picture was a surprise to find when searching for mountains  and meadows.

This was once the Collins Ranch, where my kids grandmother Grace M Collins was born. Her bedroom top left corner of the white house.  wow it was a treat to find it in goggles.  I will need to get the photos out at home and add this to all.
I have my name engrave up in those quakier along the ridge of the mtn.
Had spent reunions there with the Collins family, who I might add are some real fine folks.  Grace had 2 older brothers Dee and Everett and older sister Fern.  I only met the brothers and boy where they the kindest people on earth, there wives and their kids who was my husband then cousins.  The stories I would hear from each was a tale I never forgotten.
I dedicate this page for them all who shown me nature and beauty. Most of all strong family ties. Somewhere in those trees my name is there, along with everyone elses.

Cleaning a Rugs

If you live in a place that will have a surplus of snow within the next few months--like I do--you just might want to try this old time method of cleaning area rugs. Apparently, it works for wool, cotton and polyester rugs. Note: You'll want to use DRY snow for this procedure, not the soggy stuff.

1. First, if you can, vacuums the front and back of your rug, or gently shake it out.
2. Take your rug outside in a protected area and let it get acclimated to the outside temperature.
3. Lay the rug right side down in fresh, dry snow.
4. Beat the back of the rug with a broom or rake to create vibration, but don't mash the rug into the snow.
5. When you run out of steam, flip the rug over and check out how much dirt is left in the snow. If there's a lot, you might want to repeat steps 3 & 4.
6. When you’re satisfied with the cleanliness of your rug, gently shake or beat the back of the rug to get as much snow out of it as possible.
7. Take the rug back to the protected area outside and let it 'sublimate', letting the solid snow turn to vapor (ice) without it turning into a liquid (melting). This can only happen in very cold and dry conditions.
8. Take the rug back inside the house and let it return to room temperature before you place it back on the floor.

Mirrors

Mirrors really come in all shapes and sizes.   With some creative ideas you can have them all over the house with some nice setups for viewing (lol)

Green is my favorite color and adding some seashells I just know any room will come out well.  I found this photo and its such a great idea, since I have collected seashells every chance I've gotten.

I use to collect drift wood when ever I had a chance.

this is a cool mirror, when you have a frame without the glass pane, switch it with Mirrors and glue seashells all around it.

This is cool too, spare frames paint then and make a arrangement to hang on your walls.
